What is Automated Micro-Needling?
A new innovation in aesthetic medicine is automated micro-needling. It is used to help treat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, pore size and improved overall look of the skin. There is a choice of three different topical agents used in the treatment process. One is hyaluronic acid (HA) which occurs naturally in the skin and diminishes with aging. The second is stem growth factor, which is also a natural part of the skin and stimulates the rejuvenation process. The third choice is your own platelet rich plasma (PRP) processed in the office. The PRP, HA or GF will be used as the topical agent applied during treatment.
This new exciting treatment can yield results in a few days and continue to yield results for up to six months after the treatment.
How It Works
The Eclipse Micropen uses a sterile cartridge containing twelve sharp points that spin extremely fast. The patient’s choice of topical solution will be applied to the treated areas. The device will be placed against the skin and gently moved across the treatment area. This creates micro injuries to the skin and enhances the delivery of the topically applied agent.
Microneedling skin rejuvenation stimulates the body’s own healing process and enhances formation of new collagen to help create a healthy skin appearance.
If PRP is chosen as the topical, a tube of the patient’s blood will be drawn prior to the procedure and centrifuged to obtain the platelet rich plasma (PRP). The PRP can also be injected into the skin as a natural filler that stimulates collagen production and improve appearance of lines and creases.
Benefits of Automated Micro-Needling
Micro-needling improves the appearance of aging skin by reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It can help shrink pore size, improve hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and acne scars as it adds a fresh glow to the skin.
- In office treatment (total appointment time 1-2 hours)
- Treats fines lines and wrinkles
- Reduces pore size
- Stimulates collagen formation
- Suitable for all skin types
- Downtime is minimal (1-4 days of redness)
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
A single treatment can often offer satisfactory results; however, a series of two to three treatments , spaced six to eight weeks apart is often recommended for optimal outcome. If a patient has deep wrinkles and advanced aging from sun damage, more treatments may be required.
