Spider Veins
Spider veins and broken capillaries are not harmful, but many patients with spider veins have cosmetic concerns. We offer spider vein removal options with sclerotherapy injections and laser treatments. We use the Gemini Laser System at our practice and have found this innovative laser to be very effective for treating broken capillaries as well as spider veins. Dr. Marriott will determine what treatment is most appropriate for you during your consultation.
Sclerotherapy for Spider Vein Removal
Sclerotherapy is a simple treatment that involves injecting a salt solution directly into the problematic vein. It is often used to treat spider veins because it is very effective for breaking down the lining of the blood vessels. The solution is injected into the vein with a very fine needle, causing the vein wall to collapse before being absorbed by the body.
This can be an effective treatment option for small to medium-sized veins on the legs. In some cases, the patient may need to wear compression stockings for a few days or weeks after treatment to ensure optimal healing. The number of treatments and recovery process varies significantly by patient since it depends on how large the vein is and how many injections are needed to completely collapse the vein wall.
Laser Spider Vein Removal
Spider vein removal with the Gemini Laser System is another attractive option for patients. If you have small spider veins on your face, hands, or upper body, laser treatment may be a better option for eradicating these veins while helping maintain the integrity of the skin. We pass the laser over the problem area to shrink the veins. Veins may become darker and more visible before fading completely within two to six weeks. In some cases, a series of treatments spaced one to two months apart is needed to achieve optimal results.
